    Hey Everyone,

I just moved to Norman this month to work at the Sam Noble Museum of Natural History at OU, and wanted to know if there is a sub-group of runners that do group runs in the area. I've seen lost of runners around while getting oriented, but I wasn't sure if there is anything more formal. This looks like a great group of friendly people and I look forward to meeting and running with you all!

    Katrina,

I recommend you contact OK Runner - a running store in the Brookhaven Shopping Center - 3720 West Robinson St (405) 447-8445. I believe they host runs from their store.

Great, thanks! I've actually visited there once already, but since its getting into the summer around here I gather they don't have as active of a training group. I appreciate the suggestion!

    Katrina,

Sherry & I are members living in Norman.  We use the OU Houston Huff as our starting point and run the city from there.  The suggestion about the Ok Runners in Brookhaven is a good one.  Gus and the others are great and I believe a couple of them have a small group that keep the conditioning going.  They also have a group involved in trail running at Thunderbird.  If you see a couple running (me in a red bandana and her in ear phones), raise a hand.

Thats good to know! I actually stopped by Thunderbird a few weeks ago (the entrance right off of Alameda) and saw that they did have some trails, but only got as far as 1.6 miles. I ended up running along Alameda instead, which was a pretty hilly run! I tried stopping at Stanley Draper as well, and the guys at the visitor's center really didn't know of any trails there either (though they mentioned seeing runners at the mountain-bike trail part). I'd love to learn more about some of the off-the road runs. Where exactly is Houston Huff? I'm based off of South Chautauqua, now so everything is pretty much running north to campus and from there.
Do you do the track workouts on Tuesday? I saw a few people out on the OU track there around 7pm this week, including a couple doing 100's. There are a lot of runners out and about lately around Norman, I look forward to meeting you!

    Hi Katrina,

I just joined landrunners and live in the southmoore area, so if you want a running buddy I would love to meet up and run sometime. I'm getting ready to start training for my first half in about a week so I will be doing longer runs on the weekend. I'm not a terribly fast runner, but would love some company! Let me know!

I'm a new Landrunner (joined at the OKC Memorial Expo), thus my first posting.

I'm a big fan of the Sutton Wilderness Trail on the east side.  It's on 12th Street between Robinson and Rock Creek Road (closer to Rock Creek- north of the dog park).  It sits on the west side of the road on 12th.

It's a 1.5 mile loop, but it weaves through the trees and around a large pond that you can do 6-10 miles before you start to feel like you've seen this all before.  It has a few side escapes that will take you to the ball fields on Robinson, and the like.  The trail splits on the south side of the pond - thus if you stay close to the pond on the south side - you will link back up to the main trail, but you will only get in 1.25 miles.

My favorite place to run in Norman during the Summer (the shade in the trees breaks the heat a bit).

That might be fun! I usually run in the mornings nearby where I live but I could do a weekend run or two. I'm slowly cranking up for a marathon in October so I've been doing 12mile+ long runs. I'll keep you posted! :)
